Sooner than expected: 'V' Day

Tuesday is the day that the first Canadian will receive a COVID-19 Vaccine.
That's pretty damn cool!!
We lay people cannot fathom the sheer force of human intelligence, science and technology that went into this vaccine nor the strategic and logistical power required to offer each and every Canadian the opportunity to receive a vaccine.
I have not missed the very important fact that all of the timelines around this massive vaccination program are occurring sooner than we expected. I don't make predictions too often but I believe that Canadians will be immunized by mid-summer. And as each at -risk group receives the vaccine first, we will see the death rate, the serious complication rate and the hospitalization/ICU rate plummet leaving leaders with the ability to slowly lessen our restrictions well before 100 % of Canadians have access.
BUT FOR NOW:
Remember that there were almost 7,000 new cases in Canada yesterday.
One hundred and twenty six Canadians died of COVID -19.
Yesterday, in the Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin public health region, there were 68 new cases. Today, in Guelph, there are 31 with nine in hospital.
December 4/20: 49.8 cases/100,000
2.7% positivity
1.04 R value
December 10/20: 76.1 cases/100,000
3.4% positivity
1.17 R value
December 11/20 84.2 cases/100,00
3.3% positivity
1.15 R value
Cases have increased very dramatically in our region. The virus is spreading more widely. The spread continues to come from private social functions and gatherings where the public health recommendations are not adhered to and increasingly, form workplaces in break rooms and dining spaces. We should avoid communal food sharing. Stay away from that tray of Christmas cookies. Personally, a massive sacrifice for me.
49.8....... 76.1....... 84.2.......
Let's CRUSH these numbers!
WE KNOW HOW TO MANAGE THIS. Three layer masks on everywhere in public preferably with one polypropylene layer. Sanitize your hands. I now sanitize my hands on my way into the grocery store, on my way out, when I get into the car and when I arrive home. Six feet apart, minimum, from anyone who is not in your home bubble.........AND, keep smiling. That smile is expressed in your eyes. It fills us with good cheer and it reminds us that we are in this together, that Christmas is still coming and that the end of COVID-19 is in sight. Our time to celebrate and rejoice is just over the horizon.
AND....get ready to jump on the VACCINE bandwagon. It is safe and I will give you a hand up!
To learn more about this vaccine and the incredible technology behind it these videos are available.
We are hosting our third webinar on December 14th.
Our special guest is Linda Hasenfratz, CEO of Linamar, Guelph and appointee to the Ontario COVID- 19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force.

We will have time to answer many vaccine questions and discuss how to cope with the upcoming, very different Christmas season.
Please share.
PS. No, not a COVID- 19 vaccine in this image. I am just practising ( with great anticipation ).
