A stand against racism and stigma

While the world stands up against racism, let's not forget to continue working towards erasing all forms of stigma.
June is pride month. Wear the colours with pride. Oh for a world where both racism and stigma against any group of people no longer exists. As the millennials take on leadership positions, this is more than possible. Their quest for tolerance and social justice seems to have been blended into their DNA.
Well done. I will be cheering you on until my last breath.
I don't know about you but his week has felt particularly heavy. Ontario's emergency orders have been extended until the end of June. We can handle that but is is disappointing. Riots and mass protests are taking place in North America and around the world with people defiantly and courageously standing up against racism. In a world blanketed in COVID 19, these mass gatherings are dangerous. Obviously, a higher pursuit is a priority; the pursuit of values like fairness, justice, equality, goodness, tolerance, inclusivity and kindness. These are values I would put my life on the line for. Thank you to those of you who have set examples of 'peaceful' solidarity. It brings us hope and gives us great perspective over our present trials. To fight for the rights of stigmatized populations is truly a higher calling. I am proud and I am proud of being proud.
Our present trials are light and oh so momentary. They should not be diminished but while struggling through many of life's trails, perspective has been one of my constant tools. The world may seem to be entirely off centre. It is dizzying, disturbing and troubling but it is not over. COVID 19, in my mind, represents a new beginning, a vital reset, an opportunity to put us on a path of selflessness and integrity.
I whole-heartedly accept the suffering if it leads us to that healthier path while acknowledging those that suffer so much more and striving to make their lives better.
As for COVID news:
Yes, in Ontario, the number of new daily cases is up higher than we need them to be but the doubling time for new cases is now 84 days ( we started at 2.75 days).
Canada reported the lowest new cases since March 29th (705).
No new cases in Guelph since March 30th.
78.3 % of cases in Ontario have now resolved.
Much of the country continues to re-open. Elementary schools open in BC, dozens of national parks are slowly re-opening. Manitoba starts phase two: sports are back on, restaurants open, and Alberta starts phase two ahead of schedule.
No deaths reported in Spain, in the last 2 days. A country that was so devastated is now in full recovery mode.
Ten thousand antibody testing kits will be mailed to a random list of Canadians to test for antibodies to COVID 19 which will give us a profile of the virus in Canada: How many test positive, how many are asymptomatic, how many were sick but not tested but had COVID 19. We will see results of this research trial by August and it will provide vital information that will allow us to make wise decisions about how and when to loosen restrictions.
This antibody test is approved for use in research trials for now. The test is not accurate enough to be used in the clinical setting out here on the front lines.
We still have work to do in Ontario. Here, the rules have not changed. Stay distanced, no more than 5 can gather. Get out there and enjoy some physical activity outside. Even though our emergency orders are still in place, we will start to see more things opening up in communities with a lower incidence of COVID 19. A regional phased in approach is now in the works. Stay tuned and do not lose hope. Remember those that are suffering.
Have no doubt, we will get there too. In the blink of an eye, this will pass.
Please share.
Please join us on June 10th for an informative night on finding the COVID balance. You will see my change in hair colour. No concerns, it is out of a box, not a salon.
